Woodchip

Converting farm timber with 10” Junkkari HJ10G chipper.

There are various applications for woodchip :-

1. Pathways, who’s need to be resurfaced using materials such as shale and gravel can prove costly.

2. Playgrounds, where the woodchip provides a safe surface.

3. Shrub bed areas which otherwise may be  very labour intensive with their need for constant weeding and general maintenance.

4. Biomass for heating.

 

There are no preservatives or colouring in our natural farm-grown woodchip. We can supply hardwood or softwood woodchips.

 

Pathways The woodchip is very soft underfoot, does not stick to or damage golfer’s spikes and does not damage the course cutting machinery, unlike gravel, should any overspill from the walkways onto the grassed areas.

 

Shrub Bed Areas In shrub bed areas, the woodchip acts as a weed suppressant, reducing levels of maintenance and is of particular use in wet areas or heavily trafficked areas due to it’s high absorbency. Woodchip should initially be applied in a layer between 2” and 3” thick (50—70mm). As the material gradually turns to mulch and mixes with the soil, another inch (25mm) or so should be added each year in most circumstances.

· Improves organic content of the soil

· Improves work content of the soil (therefore improves soil quality

· Improves root density of developing trees and therefore the long term health and stability of the tree.

 

Tests performed by the International Society of Arboriculture have shown that newly planted trees surrounded by a 2-3” layer of woodchip develop FOUR TIMES the root density of identical trees surrounded by grass or weeds.
